Friday Feature #23: Kadyn Proctor

Alabama were arguably the defining team of the 2025 college football season. In what was a crazy and unpredictable year, no team was arguably as hard to call every week as the Crimson Tide. From beating SEC champions Georgia in the regular season, crazy comebacks over South Carolina and Oklahoma, to getting shellacked by Indiana in their final game of the year, you can’t tell the story of last season without Kalen Deboer and the Tide. A player who epitomises that is Kadyn Proctor. He went from a clear Top 5 pick to outside the 1st round, and now back in the 1st round on most boards. Check out my detailed scouting report on Proctor below:

Background & Measurables

Name: Kadyn Proctor

Year: Junior

Size: 6’7, 369 pounds

Position/Scheme Fit: Tackle only in a hybrid gap/zone scheme

Proctor was a five-star prospect coming out of high school in Iowa who flip-flopped his commitment from Alabama to Iowa and finally back to Alabama. A multi-sport athlete who also played basketball and participated in track in High School. Proctor was tasked with protecting Jalen Milroe’s blindside in each of his first two seasons. While he took his lumps as a true freshman in 2023, the former five-star recruit showed great improvement down the stretch of the season, which carried over into his sophomore campaign. Selected to the All-SEC Freshman Team by the conference coaches, he earned the starting job at left tackle during fall camp and has maintained that role for all 13 games. Entered the transfer portal after Nick Saban's retirement to transfer back home to Iowa, but following spring practice, he re-entered the portal to come back to Alabama.

In 2024, he earned second-team All-SEC honors from the league coaches. Recorded 639 snaps of action with 54 total knockdowns, missed the first two games due to injury. Added to the Outland Trophy Watch List following the Tide's win over the Badgers, named one of the Outland's Players of the Week following the game in Madison. Selected as an offensive (power) player of the week by the Alabama coaching staff for his efforts against Wisconsin, South Carolina and Mercer. He followed that up by being named first-team All-America by the Walter Camp Football Foundation in 2025. He was also named first-team All-SEC by both the Associated Press media voters and the conference’s coaches for his efforts. He only allowed 2 sacks all year and was part of an offensive line which helped the Tide have 32 passing TDs on the year (Top 10 in FBS).

Games watched: LSU (2023), Tennessee (2024), Georgia (2024), Missouri (2025), Indiana CFP (2025).

Detailed Scouting Report

Strengths

1. Has improved his consistency every year as a pass blocker, going from nine sacks allowed as a true freshman in 2023 to three in 2024 and only 2 in 2025. Proctor's stock is very much on the rise after an uneven showing in the first few weeks of the season.

2. Gets to the 2nd level with impressive speed and agility. Run blocks in space with menace and can put people on their backs with high-level strength. Can even move to the 3rd level and to the boundary with impressive athleticism.

3. Effective seal-off blocker and mauler in the run game. People mover at the line and tough to counter inside due to his length and overall size. Good understanding of angles and knows where to move outside rushers to allow gap runs.

4. Quick to get out of his stance and explodes through blocks. Particularly effective in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Could easily move to guard and be equally effective there.

5. Flashes ridiculous strength. You can't teach size, and at 6'7 and 369 pounds, he is the prototypical size for an NFL tackle. There are several examples in his film where he punishes rushers who are predictable in their technique.

Development Points

1. Struggles with twitchier, bendier rushers at times. Several reps where he wasn't able to shift his feet and mirror the edge defender, sacrificing pressures or sacks too early in the rep.

2. Misses blocks in the run game due to not being able to shift his feet quickly enough. Will likely be a better pass protector than run blocker at the next level. Examples in 2025 of Proctor struggling with more complex blocking assignments, as he can get lazy with his technique and eye discipline.

3. Pad level can be a concern as he gives up leverage underneath to active pass rushers. Struggled a bit taking on Perkins from LSU, and also vs Missouri got lifted a couple of times on contact or pushed back on his anchor.

4. Hand usage fluctuates at times. Looks polished and refined at times, but he had reps vs Georgia and LSU where he allowed defenders into his chest too easily. Allows defenders to rip across his frame on counters, where he could be more active and keep coordinated on his lower and upper body.

5. Can dip his head and get flat-footed at times, leaving him prone to outside rip moves and counters. Needs to keep his weight consistent to play lighter on his feet with better lateral movement.

Conclusion

Proctor stands out on the talented Crimson Tide offensive line, and while his tape has been inconsistent, the potential is undeniable. You can't teach size, and he tips the scales at 369 pounds and 6'7. He doesn't shift his feet as well as you'd like to see and definitely struggled with some of the twitchier outside rushers in the SEC. However, he flashes insane strength and high pass pro upside, getting to the 2nd level with ease. He will need some development, as his up-and-down tape suggests, but he has Pro Bowl potential at either tackle or guard if he can put it all together at the next level.

Grade: 7.0/9.0 (1st round grade)

Player Comp
On the positive end, I can see some Donovan Smith or Trent Brown, both of whom have had multiple high-end years starting in the NFL. However, his weight reminds me a bit of Dawand Jones, who slid to the 4th round or JC Latham, who has taken some lumps in his 2 years in the league.

Team Fits
Rams, Chiefs, Seahawks, Browns, Packers
