10 in 10: 2026 NFL Draft Scouting

Clemson is a popular pick to make a national championship run this winter, and from looking at some 2026 defensive prospects, it’s not hard to see why. Among their potential 1st-round picks on defense is Avieon Terrell, who already had a popular last name before he ever arrived on campus with his older brother A.J. having starred for the Tigers. Check back tomorrow and every day between now and kickoff in Week 0 on the 23rd of August for more prospect breakdowns.

No. 6- Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson

Prospect Details

Name: Avieon Terrell

College: Clemson

Year: Junior

Measurables: 5’11, 180 pounds

Scheme Fit: Outside Corner in a 4-2-5 base defense

Background

The younger brother of current Atlanta Falcons corner A.J. Terrell, Avieon is projected to follow in his brother’s footsteps from Clemson to the first round of the NFL draft. He is a former 4 star recruit out of Westlake HS in Atlanta, Georgia and also ran track.

In 2023 as a true freshman, he was credited with 18 tackles, six pass breakups and an interception in 375 snaps over 13 games (five starts). He was one of six Clemson true freshmen to appear in all 13 games (Jamal Anderson, Khalil Barnes, Tyler Brown, Shelton Lewis and T.J. Parker). Was also an All-ACC Academic Team selection.

In 2024, he took a step forward with 64 tackles (4.5 for loss), 13 pass breakups, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and a sack in 816 defensive snaps over 14 games (all starts). A second-team All-ACC selection by the conference, the AP and Phil Steele, he became the first Clemson player under Dabo Swinney to finish a season with at least three forced fumbles and multiple interceptions and multiple fumble recoveries. He enters the 2025 CFB season as one of the best CBs in the nation and could have a big say on whether Clemson is a legitimate championship contender.

Detailed Scouting Report

Strengths

1. A much better run defender than his size suggests, placing fourth among all cornerbacks with a 90.7 run-defense grade this past season, while his three forced fumbles were tied for second among all starting CBs.

2. Plays physical at the line in press coverage. Jams his receivers well and has good mirror skills to dictate the route and stay connected even on underneath and in-breaking routes.

3. Good instincts are clear right from the off. Closes on the ball well with excellent range and ball skills to attack the football and break up the pass.

4. Fluid in terms of his change of direction, capable of mirroring receivers inside and out. Doesn't give up his hip too easily on out-breaking routes which is important because some NFL teams may only like him inside in the slot.

5. More than adequate deep speed on film. Quick to close short distances and capable of bumping and running with most receivers.

Development Points

1. His weight (currently listed at 180 pounds) could be a hang-up for NFL teams that are evaluating him. Run over vs UNC at the goal line and missed 9 tackles in 2024.

2. Lack of physicality shows up on Switch releases. Needs to fight better through picks and rubs and understand where ‘banjo’ coverage is needed.

3. Has a habit of panicking when he is trailing in coverage. 7 penalties in 2024, including 3 PI calls in one game vs Texas is something he will need to clean up. Not helpful that it was the final game of the year, meaning his season finished on a bit of a sour note.

4. Can give up too much of a soft zone when playing off, relying too much on his ability to click and close. Rep vs Georgia where he gave up a 2nd and 16, so needs to improve his game and situational awareness.

Summary

Terrell returns to a stacked Clemson defence as the best secondary player following an impressive Sophomore campaign. He is excellent in coverage, with short-area quickness and ball skills to burn; his instincts are not a surprise, given his NFL bloodline. He is slight at only 180 pounds and can get pushed around at times, while also being a bit grabby in coverage, so there are things to work on in the Tom Allen defence this year. With a strong season, Terrell could find himself as the top Cornerback off the board in April.
