10 in 10: 2026 NFL Draft Scouting
Can Arizona State repeat as Big 12 champions in 2025? They may well be the favourites, and not just because they have Sam Leavitt, one of the most talented QBs in the conference. They also have Jordyn Tyson, returning from the injury that kept him out of ASU’s final 2 games of the season in 2024. Check back tomorrow and every day between now and kickoff in Week 0 on the 23rd of August for more prospect breakdowns.
No. 5- Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State
Prospect Details
Name: Jordyn Tyson
College: Arizona State
Year: Redshirt Junior
Measurables: 6’1, 195 pounds
Scheme Fit: Outside receiver in a West Coast offense
Background
Former 3 star recruit out of Allen, Texas. He committed to Colorado and played in nine games as a true freshman in 2022, had 22 receptions for a team-leading 470 yards and five total touchdowns. His brother, Jaylon Tyson, was the No. 20 overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2024 NBA Draft. Transferred to Arizona State after the 2022 season.
Redshirted the 2023 season as he had only 4 targets and 27 snaps with zero catches. Tyson, however, enjoyed a massive breakout year with the Sun Devils in 2024, tallying 1,098 yards as a redshirt sophomore. He was a third-team All-America selection by the Associated Press. In Arizona State’s final six games of the regular season, Tyson led the nation with 729 receiving yards while his 4.03 yards per route run were second among Power Four WRs. He unfortunately suffered a shoulder injury in the final regular season game, which kept him out of the Big 12 title game and College Football Playoff quarterfinal, the latter of which the Sun Devils lost in double overtime. He returns in 2025 on a mission to put a more consistent season forward and vault him into high-end Day 1 draft conversation.
Detailed Scouting Report
Strengths
1. Willing blocker who has some technique as well. Good upper body strength and shifts his feet well to adjust to outside screens and spring the ball carrier.
2. Good concentration on contested catches and over the middle in traffic. Hauled in 10/15 contested targets despite only being 6'1, which ranked inside the top 50 among WRs with over 30 targets.
3. Is an explosive play waiting to happen. Had the 15th highest yards per route run in 2024 despite being outside the Top 150 in Average Depth of Target (ADOT). Threat to take it to the house every time he gets the ball in his hands.
4. Crisp when running out routes. Little to no wasted movement, and doesn't chop his feet or curve on his routes. Potential to run an even more diverse route tree, if asked.
5. Versatile receiver who has over 150 snaps in both the slot and outside. Teams may view him differently, and that will help his draft cause as a Swiss Army Knife across the offense
Development Points
1. Had a shoulder injury to close the season and missed the CFP for the Sun Devils, so important to monitor that as he enters the 2025 season.
2. 7 drops across the 2024 season, which is a little on the high side. Mostly focus drops and never had more than one in any game, but nonetheless could do with bringing that number down. Also prone to jumping to make catches, which can cause issues with getting his feet down.
3. The nature of the Sun Devils offense makes him a bit of a projection. Low ADOT shows on film as he is mostly catching bubble and tunnel screens. Has games with no real 1-on-1 reps that went for big plays on the tape watched.
4. Did have a fumble vs Kansas State and Kansas, so ball security is something to watch for. He's a big YAC guy, which is impressive, but he needs to make sure to hang onto the ball
5. Doesn't have elite deep vertical speed on film. Will be interesting to see how he times in the 40, but not massive separation on his post and seam routes. Was chased down from behind by a safety vs Arizona on a play that should have gone for more.
Summary
Tyson had a breakout year last year, particularly in the second half of the season as he took over several games for the Sun Devils, only derailed by a shoulder injury. Tyson is an explosive play waiting to happen with 10 TDs last year and having one of the highest yards per route run in college football. Ball security can be an issue for him with 7 drops and 2 fumbles lost during the course of the year, but if he can continue to show improvement, there is little reason not to expect him to be one of the top receivers off the board in the Spring.
