Saturday Scouting #2: Faletau Satuala
BYU are the consistent force in the Big 12. For all the talk about Texas Tech, the Cougars are always there or thereabouts in the conference, and 2026 looks no different. A big Week 2 win over Arizona has the men from Provo looking formidable once again. BYU leads the Big 12 in INTs and is top-half in almost every defensive stat. A major reason for that is the play of true junior safety Faletau Satuala, a player I have had my eye on for some time. Check out my detailed scouting report on Satuala below:

College: BYU
Year: Junior
Size: 6’4, 215 pounds
Position/Scheme Fit: Physical box safety in a multiple, aggressive defensive scheme
Former 4-star safety in the 2024 class from Bountiful, Utah. He joined BYU over UCLA, Arizona and Utah. He also played basketball and lacrosse in High School. As a freshman, he played in 12 of 13 games and tied his career high with 2 tackles in the Bowl game. That would foreshadow what was to come from the Utah native.
In 2025, he played in 14 games, starting seven. He led the team with 84 total tackles and was named FWAA Second-Team All-American. He also recorded 7.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and three interceptions, including a pick-six vs Iowa State. All in all, he recorded 84 tackles (7.5 TFLs), a sack, 4 interceptions, and 7 PBUs on the year. Satuala stock has emerged since then as truly NFL-caliber, and he has started 2026 impressively once more. Through 3 games, the BYU safety has recorded 12 total tackles and 3 stops in the run game, as well as some stingy performances in coverage.
Scouting Report
Strengths
Impressive size and athleticism at the safety position, which you can see the moment you put on the film.
Changes direction fluidly for a taller safety, and his length is a huge asset.
Flashes decent ball skills with 3 picks and only 1 TD allowed in 2025.
Dominates at the contact point and wraps up with consistency.
Blows up blocks from RBs and TEs and plays with intensity.
Development Points
Broke his foot in the preseason and needs a fully healthy 2026 run to declare in 2027.
Gets too much depth at FS and might be better suited as more of a Star or box safety.
Rushes into contact a little out of control with some mental errors.
Meets bigger backs head-on too often, which leads to missed tackles and could lead to more injuries.
Conclusion
Satuala is quickly becoming one of my favourite safeties in the 2027 class, if he declares. He is only 20 years old but is a phenomenal athlete who flashes rare instincts and playmaking. He hasn't been dominant to start 2026 but still shows some incredible straight-line speed and versatility. He may need another year in the BYU secondary before he declares, but Defensive Coordinators will fall in love with Satuala if he declares. The BYU safety is a clear Top-50 talent on my board.
